About us

The National Schools’ Fire Safety Week initiative was set up two years ago by The Fire Fighters Charity and Communities and Local Government’s Fire Kills Campaign, to encourage children to think about fire safety and to help reduce the number of children who are killed or injured in fires each year.

Initially aimed at teachers/parents of children following the Key Stage 1 curriculum, the week focuses on a different topic each year. This year’s topic is ‘Matches & Lighters: Tools not Toys’. Last year’s topic was Planning A Safe Escape.

The Fire Fighters Charity
The Fire Fighters Charity exists for injured fire fighters during their times of need and assists a new beneficiary every 30 minutes, by providing pioneering treatment and support services. The Charity has three UK centres, which offer varying combinations of therapy and recuperation services.

With no government funding, the Charity is completely reliant upon donations from the general public and fire community. You can find out more about the Charity at www.firefighterscharity.org.uk

The Fire Kills Campaign
The aim of the Fire Kills campaign is to raise awareness of fire safety issues and the ways people can reduce their risk of fire, in an effort to reduce the number of deaths and injuries from dwelling fires. This is done on two levels – a national marketing strategy and by supporting the community fire safety initiatives undertaken by local fire and rescue services.
